Getting Ahead in Google top 10

Link Types

There are two basic kinds of links you can have: one-way inbound links, and reciprocal links.

One Way Links
One way links are the most desirable kind of links to get. If another website thinks a page on your site is valuable to their visitors, they will place a link to your page on your site. Unfortunately, unless you're a huge site offering something very unique, you probably can't expect to get hundreds or thousands of these one way links.

To make the job of getting one way links easier, many companies have come up with solutions. You can purchase one way links, or you can trade for them. If you purchase one way links, expect to pay anwhere from $10.00 annually to over $1,000 monthly depending on the pagerank of the page carrying your link. Obviously this can become a very expensive proposition.

The other solution is to trade for one way links.

Trading for one way links can be done through a new service called Link Vault. It works like this: You sign up, add some code to pages you will place links on, and you earn link credits (called "vaultage") that are used to have your links placed on other sites. You can add one to five links on each of your pages. Code is availble for either PHP or ASP pages, and complete instructions are provided.

The Link Vault servers do the rest by automatically placing links on your pages, and your links are put on other pages in the network. You are able to vary the link text and speed at which links to your site are added. The system is designed to mimic natural link building, with varied link text and slow but steading increase in links to your site.

At the present time Link Vault is a free service, but they do have plans for additional paid options that are yet to be announced.

We highly recommend Link Vault. It has worked well for us. Check it out here: Link Vault

Reciprocal Links
Reciprocal links are also a great way to get inbound links. In this structure, you provide a link to a site in exchange for them linking to you. Because this requires dealing regularly with all your link partners, it can become quite a chore to manage.
